If you are a brown person, then you may remember the famous “Zubaida Aapa k Totkay” but if you are not a brown guy then this term may be a little confusing for you.

But regardless of brown or non-brown, you may already be thinking about “What is Amal Totkay?”. I can totally understand your eagerness to learn about this but let me first build some momentum for it.

I cannot equate any word of English to totkay but you can refer to it as something like life hacks. And Amal Totkay is something related to the Growth Mindset. So let us first discuss it. There are two types of mindsets; Fixed Mindset and Growth Mindset. The following comparison table will give you an insight into both.

Now growth mindset may seem attractive to you. So you might wanna know how you can build that. That’s where we need Amal Totkay, which is basically a 5-step hack to develop a growth mindset. Here are the steps:

1. Self-talk

Your thoughts are solely responsible for your mindset and your mindset is responsible for your success. You might have read The Secret, which is based on the Law of Attraction.

“If you can visualize it, you can achieve it.”

So to visualize something, the first step is to talk to yourself about it.

2. Get out of your comfort zone

Within the comfort zone, there isn’t much incentive for people to reach new heights of performance. It’s here that people go about routines devoid of risk, causing their progress to plateau.

“The comfort zone is a behavioral state within which a person operates in an anxiety-neutral condition, using a limited set of behaviors to deliver a steady level of performance, usually without a sense of risk.”

When leaving the comfort zone, fear doesn’t always equate to being in the panic zone. As the below diagram shows, fear can be a necessary step en route to the learning and growth zones:

A person can get out of the comfort zone and walk towards the growth zone by following the Kaizen Approach. According to this approach, you just have to improve 1% daily by working on yourself and your habits.

3. Create new habits

Everyone wants to leave their bad habits but struggling with them as they are not ready to leave the person. So here is the trick, to drop some bad habits you need to replace them with some new good habits. Now you might say I have already done that but now struggling to develop those new habits, They just don’t stick with me. Whether it is book reading or going to the gym, we do it for the first few days then leave them just as they were not there.

Here are a few tips (or totkay in my language) to make the habits stick:
1. Change your environment
2. Find accountability in someway
3. The 2-day rule (Never skip 2 days in a row)

I would love to thank Matt D’Avella, one of my favorite content creators and the one who introduced me to Minimalism, for these amazing tips. Here’s the link to his youtube video on these tips.

4. Ask people to help

Asking people to help can be the most intimidating at first but trust me, it is the beautiful thing you can ask for. Just make sure you are choosing people who you trust and know they care about you.

5. Fake it till you make it

Just to be clear, by this totka I do not mean you need to fake something in your resume till you make it. xD
This totka is something just like the first one. Both are based on the Law of Attraction. Most of the time, you might get nervous or feel pressured, so this is the totka to keep calm. It is something to help you to feel self-assured. It is just like you have to fake that you have everything in control even when nothing looks like it, just like when you fake it in front of your mom when you break something at home. haha!

Self-talk is my favorite totka. What was your favorite, let me know in the response.

I hope you liked my take on Amal Totkay. I have started implementing it already and I hope you will implement it in your life soon.
All the best!!!!
